Welcome to Life Science-- err, with a brief flashback in a couple of weeks...

Moving on over to the biology side of things... from sloooooooooooooooow big systems like weather to living critters.  We're soon to start with the smallest of the small at the cellular level, but let's start with basic vocabulary to get your mind switching gears.

Things to know:
Science definition
Name the five characteristics of living things:
They grow, require energy, react to stimuli, are made of cells, and reproduce.
Homeostasis-
Stimuli
Metabolism
Reproduction-- specifically the difference between:
asexual
(passing on of genetic information from one parent to one offspring via mitosis, budding and the like)
 and
sexual (two parent organisms pass on some of their genetic material to one offspring which  demonstrates some traits of both parents)
 Scientific method
Graph types
Metric System what units are used for weight, liquid, and length?  What tells you larger units and what is used for smaller units?

People to know:
Redi
Pasteur
Oparin
Miller

BUT PLEASE don't stop thinking about earth science, because later this month we are going to be back in the thick of it for a day or two.
